About two years ago I was browsing the magazine section of a large book shop in Los Angeles. Unexpectedly, the face of the son of one of my close Australian friends stared at me from the cover of an international magazine. He had recently been traveling in Japan and was scouted by a modeling agency, something that everyone would love to experience, having a complete stranger, an expert in beauty, tell us we are model beautiful. It is the ultimate validation we all crave.
Certainly, being accepted by a model agency requires a certain type of beauty, and we often make the mistake of believing that, if it is not the only beauty, then it is the most important kind, the most real.
But beauty is an attribute of love. The more love we feel, the more that love inspires our every thought, word and act, the more beautiful we are. It may not be communicated through the symmetry of our face or the shape of our body but it is transmitted through our eyes, our smile, through the energy of our very being. Others, who are receptive, pick up on this transmission of energy, sometimes unconsciously, and they just “feel” we are beautiful.
Two of my nieces work at my favorite coffee shop, the place I eat, write, and socialize. I am continually being told, by both customers and management alike, how wonderful, amazing and beautiful they are.
Yet their beauty is natural and unaffected. Neither wears much make-up and they just take their hair back into a ponytail or bun. There are no fake tans, bleached teeth, or cleavage. On the basis of everything you see and hear in the media, they tick few boxes of what young women are meant to be doing to be beautiful according to contemporary standards. Yet, judging by the comments I have received, they are clearly regarded as totally beautiful.
Their beauty is transmitted through the energy of their love.Their natural attractiveness is enhanced and intensified by their genuine love and kindness, reflected in their care for their customers and fellow workers, their genuine interest in others, and their desire to make sure everyone has what they need and their preparedness to do whatever they can do to that end. Their love shines through their startling sapphire blue eyes, and their broad smiles, and everyone is affected by it.
This type of beauty transcends age, culture or custom. It is the beauty of authenticity, and it is infinite and eternal, which means it is accessible to all.
The communication of our inner beauty occurs on a different wavelength to conventional beauty, rather like radio waves. It could be said that conventional beauty is like the most popular radio station that plays in every home and car, but beauty that reflects inner love is transmitted on the short wave band which requires a special receiver. We are all inbuilt with this receiver and the more we actively tune to the beauty of love the more beautiful we all become.
